Kosuth’s Chair in Code, 2011
software, projection / variable dimensions
Kosuth’s Chair, in Code references Joseph Kosuth’s seminal project One and Three Chairs from 1965 in which he juxtaposed a physical chair, a picture of chair, and a written definition of a chair. This piece builds upon Kosuth’s work and asserts that within the digital era, there is a new way of describing ob- jects through computer languages. Computer languages are different from the natural language that Kosuth used in his definition in that code is operative and dynamic, not merely descriptive.
